HONORS ITS INTERNATIONALLY-AWARDED
SKIMRIDERS
ON NATIONAL HEROES DAY |
Tanauan,
Leyte (August 24) -- The local government
of Tanauan, Leyte will commemorate the National
Heroes Day on Monday, August 25, by honoring in
fitting rites, the two young Tanauananons who
won in the recently held International Skimboarding
competition in Penang, Malaysia. |
Mayor Roque A. Tiu informed that 13-year old
Carl Pasagui Gabas, a first year High School
student won as the Champion in the Junior Division
while Leo Espada, 19 years old, was first runner
up in the Senior Division in the international
skimboarding competition which was held on August
16. The two, Mayor Tiu said were the only Filipino
riders in the said competition.
In the morning of August 25, a motorcade will
be conducted around the thoroughfares of Tanauan
which will be participated by the honories joined
by their respective families, the Municipal
Officials, the classmates of the two honorees
and the skimriders of Tanauan.

At 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon,
a Thanksgiving Mass will be offered in honor
of all the heroes of Tanauan, Mayor Tiu said.
In the evening, an Appreciation Party will be
conducted in honor of the champion skimriders
and for the unsung heroes of the recently held
fiesta of Tanauan, Mayor Tiu added. These, he
said are the major sponsors, the technical working
group in all the activities and all those who
helped make the celebration a truly successful
one.
Among those invited to grace the occasion are
Leyte Governor Carlos Jericho Petilla, PAGCOR
vice President Remedios L. Petilla and Waray
Partylist Congressman Bembem Noel.
Mayor
Tiu informed that the activities are in conjunction
with the memorandum circular of the Department
of Interior and Local Government which enjoined
all Provincial Governors, City and Municipal Mayors
to celebrate the National Heroes Day on August
