TANAUAN LASS TOPS
6TH CIVIL REGISTRATION QUIZ IN LEYTE

Tanauan, Leyte -- Normie L. Urbano of the Tanauan National High School in Tanauan, Leyte representing Leyte I Division, topped the 6th Civil Registration Quiz Show Provincial Elimination on February 8, 2008 at the National Statistics Office Leyte Training Room. Normie was coached by Mr. Lino Acero.

This was announced by Provincial Statistics Officer Wilma A. Perante through Arthur R. Collanto, who said that the activity is in connection with the celebration of the Civil Registration Month in February.

The activity was sponsored by the National Statistics Office Leyte Provincial Office in coordination with the Local Civil Registry Personnel Association.

Coming in as second placer was Camille Erika P. Jimeno of the Tolosa National High School.

Other winners in the Provincial Eliminations are Mark Francis L. Tayum of the Bato School of Fisheries and Karl Mitvi O. Dalman of Palompon Institute of Technology for Leyte 2.

For Ormoc City, the winner is Jelly Gay P. Ceniza of the New Ormoc City National High School while for Tacloban City, the winner is Karol Grace H. Nacilla of the Cirilo Roy Montejo National High School.

Ms. Perante said that the winners will compete for the Regional Civil Registration Quiz Show which will be conducted on February 27, 2008 at Sabin Beach Resort in Ormoc City.

Futher, Ms. Perante said that the Leyte Provincial Statistic Office have lined up various activities relevant to this year's theme, "Civil Registration, Our Responsibility."

The celebration of the Civil Registration Month in February aims to enhancing awareness on the importance of birth registration among Filipinos.

It was reported that in the Philippines, more than 2.6 Filipino children do not have birth certificates because of social, cultural, economic, legal and physical barriers aside from lack of awareness on the importance of birth registration. (PIA 8)
