The
exciting and colorful showcase of Tanauan's Festival
ended August 14 with the town's school of applied
excellence (APEX), Tanauan National High School,
winning the grand trophy and cash prize for the
senior division of the 15th Pasaka Festival held
at the Tanauan Plaza on August 14, 2007. |
Tanauan
National Highschool bested the equally prepared
five other Pasaka contingents, with its exquisitely
designed ethnic costumes made out of indigenous
materials and with the precision and graceful
execution of the choreography and eye-catching
props.
Deafening cheers and shouts of joy filled the
town Plaza as Pasaka Founding Chairperson Olive
Tiu announced the winners in the merrymakers,
junior and senior division of the Festival and
as Mayor Roque Tiu presented the trophies and
cash prizes. |

The second place in the senior division was won
by the Tanauan School of Craftsmanship which was
last year's champion. The third prize went to
the Assumption Academy, the only private high
school in the municipality. The fourth place went
to the Sto. Nino Performing Arts and Sports, a
mixture of young people in Barangay Sto. Nino
and the inmates of the Regional Rehabilitation
Center for the Youth. |

In
the junior division, the pupils of the Tanauan
II Central School lorded over the other contingents,
to become the champion for the first time since
1992.
Adjudged as the second placer was the Cabuynan
Elementary School, the third placer was Tanauan
I Central School and fourth placer was the Sto.
Nino Elementary School. The Bislig Elementary
School Pasaka Tribe which won few years back as
first runner up in the Aliwan Festival in Manila,
also participated as a non competing contingent.

The
Day Care Teachers clad in clown costumes won
the first prize in the Merry Makers division.
The Tanauan School of Science and Technology
won the second place while the Tanauan Community
Volunteer Workers won the third place.
This year's Pasaka Festival was made more colorful
with the participation of the Tiboli dancers
of Punta Isla Performing Arts from Lake Sebu,
South Cotabato who presented the indigenous
Tiboli dances accompanied by authentic Tiboli
musical instruments.
Pasaka Festival prides itself as being the only
festival aside from the Pintados Festival, which
conducts annual competition, in the region.
