This
year's Pasaka Festival of Tanauan, Leyte which
was held on August 14, attracted, more than ever
attracted many foreign and thousands of local
spectators.
Leading the foreign spectators this year, is London's
Judge Ian Mayes, lead counsel of Queen Elizabeth,
who was with his two sons and their two classmates,
one a Brazilian national and the other one French.

Also
among the guests is Holland's Mr. Rob de Hommel
together with his wife. He is an investor who
came to Tanauan on August 4, to look for some
tourism investments. Mayor Tiu met him when he
was in Penang, Malaysia in July. He has decided
to put in some investments in the town.
Also among the foreign guests were Mr. and Mrs.
James Ferguson of Washington State, Mr. Kelly
Brown who is a retired US Navy Captain and Japanese
nurse Ms. Azumi. |

to be discounted are the Balikbayans who came
home from the different parts of the world, headed
by the Hermana Mayor Marimel Nuevo Sampang and
her family, Ms. Josie Ramos who is the president
of the Tanauan, Leyte Assumption Society, and
her husband, Ms. Rose Blenov and her children
and Mr. Francisco Salvana, among others. |

Also included are the Balikbayans from Metro
Manila and the different parts of the Philippines
and the guests from the different parts of the
Region and from the different barangays of Tanauan.

Mayor
Roque A. Tiu expressed satisfaction and happiness
for the success of the Pasaka Festival saying
that the presence of thousands of visitors from
and outside of Tanauan, is a manifestation of
acceptance and support on the town's festival
which is the town people's expression of thanksgiving
for the many blessings received the whole year. |

is also a way of paying homage on the town's patroness,
the Lady of Assumption and is a welcome to all the
visitors into the homes of every Tanauananons. |
Mayor
Tiu sees the Pasaka Festival as a good vehicle
that manifests the unity of the people of Tanauan,
as all the sectors cooperate and offer their best
talents. He also said that the attendance of thousands
of spectators is good for the economy of Tanauan
and good for the business of the people of the
municipality. Mayor Tiu also expressed gratitude
for all those who supported the 14-day celebration
to commemorate Tanauan Day and the Feast of Our
Lady of Assumption on August 15. |

It was observed that this year's Pasaka Festival,
aside from catching the interest of more spectators,
was more colorful because of the more beautiful
costumes and the much improved choreography
of the participants.
