Lawyer Roque Tiu who is on his third term as the municipal
mayor of Tanauan, Leyte emerged unopposed to become
the new president of the Leyte League of Municipalities
during the reorganization meeting held on Tuesday, July
3, at the Governor’s Hall of the Leyte Provincial
Capitol.
Mayor Tiu who has served the League of Municipalities
as vice president of the Leyte Chapter for two terms,
was deemed by the members to be more than deserving
to lead the League of Municipalities in the province
of Leyte which is composed of 40 municipalities.
Mayor Tiu, when interviewed by the media, said that
he intends to stir the LMP Leyte Chapter to become one
of the most active chapters, with the cooperation and
support of all the Mayors in the province. He also intends
to make the member municipalities to enjoy the benefits
of the League for the betterment of the constituents
by aligning with the programs and projects of the National
Government.
As the Leyte Chapter President, Mayor Tiu will represent
the Chapter in the National Level and he will also represent
the interest of the municipalities in the Regional Development
Council, among others.
Together with Mayor Tiu, Mayor Anlie Apostol of Carigara
was elected as Vice President. Alangalang Mayor Loreto
Yu was chosen as the secretary while Dagami Mayor Esmeralda
Ortega was re-elected as treasurer with Matalom Mayor
Eric Pajullo as the assistant treasurer. Hindang Mayor
Elpedio Cabal was chosen as the Public Relations Officer.
The elected members of the board are Babatngon Mayor
Charita Chan for the first district; Dulag Mayor Manuel
Sia Que and Burauen Mayor Fe Renomeron for the second
district; Leyte Mayor Armando Ysidoro for the 4th district
and Mahaplag Mayor Ronaldo Lleve for the 5th district.
The Election Committee composed of Capoocan Mayor Eric
Carolino, Albuera Mayor Sixto dela Victoria and Barugo
Mayor Alvin Avestruz, proclaimed the duly elected officers
for the term 2007 – 2010 of the League of Municipalities
Leyte Chapter.
The election of the Leyte LMP officers was observed
by the National League of Municipalities representative
and legal officer, Atty. Romeo Plata and Director Jose
Yee, Provincial Director of the Department of Interior
and Local Government.
Atty. Plata said that the election of the LMP Leyte
Chapter is the second to be conducted in the entire
country for this term. The first was the LMP Palawan
election which was held on June 30. Atty. Plata added
that the LMP La Union also conducted its election of
officers at the same time as Leyte . He added that on
July 5, LMP in Southern Leyte will have its own election,
which he will also supervise.
