| LMP NOMINATES TANAUAN MAYOR TO SPEAK AT
PROVENTION CONSORTIUM FORUM 2009 IN ISTANBUL |
Tanauan, Leyte -- Tanauan, Leyte Mayor Roque A. Tiu is currently in Istanbul, Turkey as the representative of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines, the Philippines and the United Cities and Local Government Associations Asia Pacific, to the ProVention Consortium Forum 2009 "Risk and Governance: Bridging National Enabling Environments and Local Action" which is currently being held in Istanbul from 13 to 15 May, 2009. |
"We are very honored to introduce to you the LMP, Philippines and local government associations' representative for the ProVention Consortium Forum on May 13-16, 2009 at Istanbul, Turkey, the Legal Counsel of the LMP and one of the Executive Committee members of the League, Atty. Roque A. Tiu from the Municipality of Tanauan, Province of Leyte," LMP president Mayor Ramon Guico Jr., wrote in his letter to Emeritus Mayor Peter Woods who is the Secretary General of Unites Cities and Local Government Asia Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC). |
"LMP, as the only member of UCLG-ASPAC from the Philippines representing the local government association is really very proud to be represented by Mayor Tiu, who is also one of the mayor-faculty of the LMP training arm, the Mayors Development Center, Inc.," Mayor Guico further stated.
Mayor Guico expressed gratitude to the "UCLG-ASPAC for the trust and confidence given to the Local government of the Philippines! We really believe that the presence of Mayor Tiu, would highly contribute to the success of the forum."
Earlier, Mayor Guico received a communication from UCLG-ASPAC saying that UCLG ASPAC is invited by UCLG to nominate Asian Mayor to speak on Risk Financing at Provention Consortium Forum 2009 "Risk and Governance: Bridging National Enabling Environments and Local Action" to be held in Istanbul from 13 to 15 May, 2009. UCLG will sponsor the participation of Asian Mayor in the Forum.
The ProVention Consortium is a global coalition of international organizations, governments, the private sector, civil society organizations and academic institutions dedicated to increasing the safety of vulnerable communities and to reducing the impacts of disasters in developing countries. It provides a forum for multi-stakeholder dialogue on disaster risk reduction and a framework for collective action. (PIA 8) |
