TANAUAN WELCOMES FIVE NURSES
UNDER PGMA'S NARS PROJECT

Tanauan, Leyte -- Relative to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's project NARS (Nurse Assigned in Rural Service), the local government of Tanauan, Leyte welcomed the endorsement of five nurse trainees by the Department of Labor and Employment Regional Office 8.

Mayor Roque Tiu said that the LGU received the endorsement of DOLE signed by Director Forter Puguon, on Friday, April 3, 2009. The said endorsement letter introduced the five nurse trainees who are willing to render their services in the municipality.

Said nurse trainees are Richard Rey Perez, Manelyn Cornejo, Leana Sandino, Veronica Reynera and Laila Redona. Mayor Tiu said he is happy to note that the nurse trainees are from the municipality.

Mayor Tiu bared that there are other nurse applicants from Tanauan but they will be accommodated in the second batch.

The five nurses underwent orientation on April 1 and 2, 2009, together with other NARS applicants, Mayor Tiu said. These nurses were briefed on the project, its objectives, expectation and other important concerns.

Mayor Tiu informed that the nurses will render six months service in the municipality. They are expected to perform the three I's: Inform, initiate and immunize and they shall be under the direct supervision of the Municipal Health Officer, Dr. Arlene Santo at the Municipal Health Unit and the Chief Nurse or Chief of the Leyte Provincial Hospital in the hospital setting.

Mayor Tiu explained that he was made to understand that the training of the nurses will be at the rural setting and in a hospital setting. They will stay in the hospital for three months and the other three months will be at the Rural Health Unit.

The mayor looks forward to a successful implementation of President Arroyo's project NARS in Tanauan.

The services of the five nurses will hopefully improve the health condition of the constituents especially the children and the mothers, Mayor Tiu said, as he committed the full support of the Local Government Unit to the nurses and to the program.

Finally, Mayor Tiu said the project NARS is a very good opportunity for the unemployed nurses in his municipality to get the proper training that will qualify them to land nursing jobs locally and overseas, without additional expense because they will be paid by the government P8,000 per month for their services rendered in the rural areas.
